Whether you want to be a teacher or just enjoy working with young children, the Early
Childhood Educator program at Collin College could be the perfect starting point for
you. The program emphasizes a developmental approach to promote the physical, social,
emotional and cognitive growth of the children. Students acquire knowledge and skills
that prepare them to create developmentally appropriate, nurturing environments.
Coursework is applicable as in-service training for teachers, administrators, nannies and family day home providers.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Early Childhood Educator program is to prepare professionals through
study and practical experience to enhance the lives and education of children and
families, and to promote change in early childhood education emphasizing a focus on
respect for diversity, community, and advocacy for the industry.

Which classes should I start with?
There are many options the students have when it comes to beginning the Early Childhood Program. Normally students are advised students to begin with coursework in one of the certificate options then they can continue on to complete their degree.
The courses required in the certificate are also required for the AAS Early Childhood Educator degree. Please contact one of the department staff below to discuss what would be the best place to start.
